Clubs and Activities

In addition to robust school programming, Indian Peaks Elementary provides a number of clubs and activities for students to engage in learning and socialization outside the school day. For a full list of opportunities, please contact the front office.

Fourth and Fifth grade students with a love for music and an interest in learning more about Mariachi Music are welcome to join Indian Peaks Mariachi Band. Students will learn the fundamentals of the armonia section by developing their skills on the guitar or vihuela. They will acquire basic music literacy skills through the experience of learning the songs and will be able to play the G, C, D7, D, and A minor chords on these instruments. For more information about Indian Peaks Mariachi Band contact Mr. Emanuel or visit https://sites.google.com/svvsd.org/indian-peaks-mariachi-band/home

Vex Robotics is an exciting opportunity for third to fifth grade students to participate in designing, building, and programming robots while documenting their progress in engineering notebooks. Students work collaboratively with their teams toward participating in leagues and tournaments. At these events they compete with other teams in the school district to accomplish the design challenge for the year and earn awards.  VEX encourages creativity, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving among groups. Our club starts at the beginning of the school year and runs till February. Be on the lookout for our flier in your child’s Thursday folder that we send home at the beginning of the school year. Our club also has the opportunity to participate in periodic leagues and tournaments on Saturdays.

We have also expanded our robotics program to include first and second graders. In this club, first and second grade students get to explore all the different elements of robotics. Students get the opportunity to build robots, drive robots and even start learning to program robots to drive on their own. This club is a great way to get our young students involved in robotics and help them get ready to join our competitive robotics club when they become 3rd graders. This club starts shortly after our 3rd-5th grade robotics club ends in February. Be on the lookout for a flier to come home in your student’s Thursday Folder. For more information about Vex IQ Robotics Club or JR. Robotics Club please contact Mr. Searls or Mrs. Urquidi.
